In Conversation with Lis Johnson and Louis Laumen
Artists Lis Johnson and Louis Laumen discuss creative challenges when making monumental portrait sculpture in bronze.
Prominent Australian sculptors Lis Johnson and Louis Laumen discuss their creative processes and personal challenges when constructing sculpture that is realistic. Lis will speak about her sensitive and humanistic sculptures. Lis’s sculpture is well represented in Canberra’s National Triangle. Dames Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney, Senator Susan Ryan and Prime Ministers Sir John Gorton and McEwen are some of her many achievements.
Prolific Australian sculpture Louis Laumen will discuss his recent sculpture of Senator Neville Bonner as well as his remarkable Boer War memorial. Louis sculptures are both accessible and monumental with a sensitivity to their locations. Both artists have taken on less traditional subjects in Australian sculpture. Johnson and Laumen as artists question what constitutes heroism in Australian culture today.
