Seagull
- This event has passed.
Written by Anton Chekhov
Translated by Karen Vickery
Directed by Caitlin Baker and Tony Knight
Presented by Chaika Theatre
A vivid and contemporary, site-specific translation and adaptation by Karen Vickery of Chekhov’s masterpiece. A country house near a lake is the scene in which love triangles, quarrels about the theatre, and egos erupt.
Aging celebrity actress, Irina, returns to the family property with her much younger lover, Boris – a famous writer. Their arrival creates a storm in which love is thwarted, egos threatened, and heated arguments about the theatre and literature erupt. The first of Chekhov’s masterpieces, Seagull is a bitter-sweet tragi-comedy in an idyllic setting.
Bring a picnic and a rug and enjoy this indoor-outdoor performance that makes full use of the historic site of ACT Hub. (In the case of threatening weather, the performance will take place indoors.)
*Please note – no performance on Friday 12 April.
