Platypus Observation & Painting Experience

  • Row Image

This immersive outdoor nature journalling experience will take place in the Queanbeyan River Outdoor Classroom, where participants will settle into the landscape using large A2 floor easels.

Rather than working at tables, you’ll be surrounded by native vegetation, waterways and the sounds of the river as you observe and paint the world around you.

Our focus will be the platypus, learning about their ecology, habitat, behaviour and the important role healthy waterways play in supporting these unique Australian animals.

This time of year can offer an exciting opportunity for platypus spotting. With fewer waterbugs available, platypus may need to spend longer periods feeding to build up their energy reserves ahead of breeding season, potentially increasing our chances of seeing one. Of course, wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, so we’ll also discover and document the many other details of the river environment around us.

Whether you’re an experienced artist or have never picked up a paintbrush, this experience is about looking closely, slowing down and learning.
