The film is inspired by the biblical story of Cain and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve, who offer gifts to God – but when favour falls on one, a shadow of jealousy leads the other down a dark and irreversible path. Cal (James Dean) and Aron (Richard Davalos) fall in love with the same girl whilst competing for the affections of their father (Raymond Massey).
