A powerful new Deaf-led film festival is coming to Canberra this May. The Sign on Screen Festival will take place from 22 to 24 May 2026 at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, bringing together films created by Deaf and Hard of Hearing filmmakers from Australia and around the world.
Presented in collaboration with The Australian National University and Deaf Connect, the festival features works in Auslan, Yolŋu Sign Language, BSL and ASL, alongside presentations from leading Deaf academics, filmmakers, historians and community members.
All events are free and fully accessible, with Auslan–English interpreting, captions, and hearing loop support.
