American Brontë (Andie MacDowell) wants to rent a dream apartment, but it’s only available to married couples. French composer George Fauré (Gérard Depardieu) needs a green card to stay in the US. They strike a deal, but their marriage of convenience slowly gives way to something real. Green Card explores themes of immigration, identity, and the unexpected turns that relationships can take, all wrapped in humour and charm.

Depardieu’s American film debut introduced English-speaking audiences to his scruffy charm through a role created especially for him by writer-director Peter Weir.

‘An effortlessly engaging love story whose ace in the hole is the almost indecent magnetism of Gerard Depardieu.’ – Los Angeles Times

Available as a 7-film Peter Weir Spotlight pass.
