SUMMARY:Haunted Treasures by Maggie Douglas and Sandy Ma
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to reclaim power when the house always wins? \nEvery system\, object\, experience has been designed and created with human intention and intervention. This exhibition immerses audiences into the artists’ attempts at reclaiming narratives crafted by larger powers to regain agency in their lived histories. \nArtists Maggie Douglas and Sandy Ma ruminate on the promises of riches\, excellence\, and power that have been carefully manipulated in so-called Australia. Reflecting on lived histories\, both artists reclaim and reframe their lost treasures by centring reflection\, humour\, and joy. \nIntroducing two brand new major works\, this exhibition will foreground the human hands that uphold insidious and oppressive systems and invite reflection on effects on personal histories. \nImage: Still from ‘Ghosts of Colonies Present’\, Maggie Douglas\, 2026. Videography by Miah-Tya Nungheena Gowland.
