PANDA week 2020! Supporting mental health

When 8 Nov, 2020 12:00pm — 14 Nov, 2020 12:00pm Where Canberra Website
While this year has been challenging for everyone, new parents, carers and their families have been left feeling especially isolated.

This is why Canberra local - Antonette Gaffney - who joined PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia) as a Community Champion in early 2019 after experiencing crippling anxiety and depression during her pregnancy, is running a GoFundMe campaign to support the work of PANDA.

When Antonette reached out to PANDA for help, she learnt that 1 in 5 women experience depression during pregnancy (antenatal depression) with 1 in 7 women—and 1 in 10 dads—experience postnatal depression.

These are already significant numbers, but compounded with the restrictions, isolation and separation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 is a particularly challenging year for new parents.

PANDA provides a range of free support services to families in need —including a helpline (Australia’s only dedicated helpline for women, men and their families affected by perinatal anxiety and depression), an anonymous mental health checklist and a large range of online resources, including information on support services in your local area.

During this year’s PANDA week, please share the word on the great work of this organisation with your networks and donate to Antonette’s GoFundMe campaign, if possible. Let’s keep these important services free and accessible for all.
