A Palette of Pioneer Places

When 6 Oct, 2019 2:00pm — 15 Dec, 2019 4:00pm Where Hall School Museum & Heritage Centre, Palmer Street Hall Act 2618 Website http://museum.hall.act.au
Non-indigenous settlement of the Ginninderra district began in the 1820s. Legislation introduced in the 1850s facilitated the leasing of Crown land. Villages such as Hall were gazetted (1882) and land was settled for market gardens, commercial options and residential blocks. Eight of these heritage buildings are the subject of Canberra artist Isla Patterson's paintings on exhibition.
She has painted eight heritage buildings of local significance within the Parishes of Jeir, Wallaroo and Ginninderra. Each of these properties was constructed on land purchased by early settlers. These paintings will be displayed as an exhibition supplemented by detailed accounts of the heritage of each building, including stories of how the land was acquired and the people who lived there.
