National Day of Women Living with HIV Morning Tea

When 12 Mar, 2019 10:30am — 12:00pm Where AIDS Action Council of the ACT, Northbourne Avenue, Turner Website
The National Day of Women Living with HIV is marked annually on March 9 on the day following International Women's Day. The AIDS Action Council will be hosting a morning tea on the veranda of the Council offices on Tuesday 12 March to mark the day.

This awareness-raising day was created by Femfatales, a network of women living with HIV of the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA). The Femfatales’ key message this year is “Get Tested, Know Your Status” which encourages and empowers women to take control of their own health by getting tested for HIV. The more women test for HIV, the more we will be able to diagnose and treat women appropriately, address the gaps in testing and tailor the experience to suit women.

This day serves as a reminder that while the number of women in Canberra living with HIV is relatively low, we must not become complacent and allow the assumption that women are not at risk of contracting the virus. Our conversations about testing, prevention and treatment must actively include women.

Please bring a gold coin donation to help support women impacted by and living positively with HIV.
