About this exhibition

Featuring the work of Ben Aitken, Aleksandra Domanović, Drew Holland, Lei Lei Kung, Jennifer Mathews, Carla Milentis, and sparkling duette, this show will use recent work to represent and capture the chaos, speed, and information overload that the Internet beams into every day, contemporary life. From marble to video, plaster and home-made paper to sound and performance, a consistent aesthetic of the show is maintained regardless of materials due to a clear rationale and each artists pushing of their materials. sparkling duette is a sound and performance group from Melbourne featuring Kung and artist Sarah McCauley, who will perform for the exhibition opening. The performance will then remain as an installation with audio for the rest of the show. The works look beyond a surface cyber-aesthetic and focus on the banal visual-style of hyper-connectivity and the media used to capture that in the physical gallery space, resulting in a wash of images, logos, and text.

Gus McGrath, Curator

Angus McGrath received the CGS Gallery Exhibition Award, as part of the ANU School of Art and Design’s Emerging Artists Support Scheme, of which CGS has been a patron for many years. ‘Although CGS usually presents exhibition awards, in this case, it supported those students who pursued art theory, art criticism and curation. This award gave Gus the opportunity to curate a show of his choosing and use the CGS Gallery facility to present his selections.’ – Mr Trevor Dunbar, CGS Gallery Coordinator
