St Patricks Day Ecumenical Service

When 16 Mar, 2018 12:00pm — 2:00pm Where Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Blackall Street, Barton Website
You are invited to attend our annual St Patrick's Day event.
The Canberra Friends of Ireland Society in conjunction with Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture (ACC&C), will hold their Annual Ecumenical Service in honour of St Patrick on Friday 16th March, commencing at 12 noon. St Patrick, credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century, is also known as “the apostle of Ireland”. He was familiar with both the language and the culture of the time and incorporated the rich traditions of oral legends and myths into his lessons of Christianity.
The Service will be held in the Chapel at the ACC&C,15 Blackall St. Barton, and will led by Anglican Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Stephen Pickard, and will be joined by clergy from the Catholic, Uniting and Presbyterian Churches and by representatives of Canberra’s Irish community organizations. The Canberra Celtic Choir, led by Julie Hesse, will perform as well as traditional musicians.

The St Patrick’s day address – “How Our Irish Heritage Has Influenced The Australian Character” will be given by well known Canberra personality, Genevieve Jacobs.

A collection will be taken on the day to aid the reconciliation work of the Corrymeela Community in Northern Ireland as well as a local charity of our guest speaker’s choice.

As the Irish National Day,17th March, falls on a Saturday, this year’s service will be on the day before. There will be ample free parking on-site at the Centre including disabled parking for eligible drivers.

Our annual St Patrick’s Day Service has evolved into one of the best-attended and most enjoyable Irish events in Canberra. It’s a public event celebrating the Irish heritage in Australia— please spread the word to family and friends.

A warm Irish welcome to all.

Catch-up with friends over light refreshments afterwards!.
